Every day, veterans and first responders show up for others. The Comfort Puppy Program is about showing up for you.The Calgary Veterans Services Society (CVSS), in partnership with The Top Dog Store, is launching a new initiative to place carefully selected Comfort Puppies with veterans and first responders — at no cost to you. These aren’t trained service animals — they’re loving companions, chosen for their calm nature, their need to bond, and their ability to quietly change lives in powerful ways.

How to Apply
Step 1: Submit Your Application
Complete the online Comfort Puppy Program Application Form. Ensure all required fields are filled out, including details about your lifestyle, home environment, and how a comfort puppy would benefit you.
Step 2: Application Review
Our team at Calgary Veterans Services Society (CVSS) will carefully review each application to ensure the program is the right fit for both the applicant and the puppy. This process may take several weeks.
Step 3: Approval & Waitlist Placement
Approved applicants will be notified and placed on a waitlist based on availability and matching criteria. The wait time may vary depending on the number of puppies available and the specific needs of each applicant.
Step 4: Matching Process
Once a comfort puppy becomes available, our team will work to match you with a puppy suited to your lifestyle and needs. Matching is based on temperament, activity level, and compatibility.
Step 5: Adoption & Next Steps
When a suitable match is found:
- You will be contacted and provided details about your matched puppy.
- A meeting will be scheduled to ensure a good fit.
- If the match is confirmed, you will complete the adoption process and receive guidance on transitioning your new companion into your home.
